Barcelona forward Raphinha discussed his choice to reject Chelsea in favor of joining the Catalan giants before Tuesday’s Champions League match between the two teams.

The Brazilian joined Barca after departing Leeds, despite interest from the Blues. Raphinha stated he was aware of their interest but always had one destination in mind.

“Since my final match with Leeds, I was aware of the chance to wear the Barça jersey and knew about Chelsea’s interest,” he told reporters.

“But I had a dream I needed to fulfill and I gave 100% to be able to wear the Barça jersey. I ignored other teams that wanted to sign me. I had a dream and did everything possible to play for Barça.”

Raphinha has been a significant success at Barcelona and is eager to return to play after some time away due to injury.

“I’ve missed the team more than they’ve missed me. I always aim to give my all on the field, both in attack and defense; it’s just part of my nature. Often, I’m the team’s toughest critic, always pushing the guys hard, but that’s just who I am,” he said.

“I believe the players on the field are there because they have the talent and quality to be there, and I try to support everyone. I have to lead by example: if I’m performing at my best, I can expect more from the team. That’s why I always strive to give my very best.”
