Frenkie de Jong: “Premier League? I don’t think so. There have been offers, but I'm happy at Barça”. “The Premier League is the best league right now, like La Liga was about ten years ago. But that doesn’t mean you have to play there to show you’re a great player”, told ESPN.

Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona's key midfielder, confirmed in an ESPN interview that he turned down Premier League advances and extended his contract with the club until 2029, emphasizing his family's happiness in the city and the club's appreciation for him.
He highlighted Robert Lewandowski's crucial return from injury as a major boost to Barcelona's attack, praising the striker's consistent scoring over nearly two decades. De Jong expressed his determination to win the Champions League, viewing it as the essential missing trophy in his Barcelona collection amid the team's strong start to the 2025-26 La Liga season.

Do I need to go to the Premier League to prove myself? I don’t think so. There have been offers, but I'm happy at Barça. The Premier League is the best league right now without a doubt, just like La Liga was about ten years ago. But that doesn’t mean you have to play there to show you’re a great player.
When Cucurella was at Brighton, he mentioned that many English players told him that they eventually dream of joining clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid. For me, I already had that dream as a kid — with Barcelona.
-Last season was probably my best here, with the league, the cup, and the Spanish Super Cup. But if you play for Barcelona for 6 years or 10 years, you HAVE to win the Champions League at least once. So I still have work to do.
I injured my ankle at the beginning of last year, and I wanted to see how I could recover from it first. From a tactical point of view, it’s NOT wise to extend your contract while you’re in a decline. It’s better to do that when you’re playing well. But the intention to stay was always there. When I signed my first contract with Barcelona, I hoped I could play there for ten or twelve years. It seems that might HAPPEN.
With Lewandowski our team is definitely better. The impact he makes is tremendous. Everyone knows it, he has been showing it for almost 15 or 20 years. He always scores goals he’s a world class striker.
I don't think there's anyone who resembles Pedri, maybe except in Spain itself there aren't many who play like him." "I don't think we have a player of that type. I think he's very talented, but it's not smart to talk about him too much right now.
That doesn't help him; it just creates a lot of expectations for him." "He's a very talented player and can become excellent, but we need to let him play quietly, and we'll see over time what happens.
