Ex-Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has stated that Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo is capable of starting for any top Premier League club, praising the Bournemouth player as one of the most well-rounded wingers in the league this season.
Semenyo’s performance has been one of the standout narratives of the 2024/25 season.
The 25-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in the Premier League to date — a record surpassed only by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland — and has played a key role in Bournemouth’s best-ever start to a top-flight season.
His performances have reignited transfer interest from several leading clubs despite his recent contract extension at the Vitality Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both held talks with the Ghana international during the summer before he opted to remain at Bournemouth. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who signed him from Bristol City for £10.5 million in January 2023, is also reported to be an admirer.
Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT, insisted that Semenyo’s blend of pace, strength, and direct attacking play makes him a guaranteed starter across the league’s top sides.
“I look at the league table, and name me a team he doesn’t start for on that left-hand side. Name one,” he said.
“He is better than [Man City’s Jérémy] Doku. If [Eberechi] Eze played as the number 10, he would be a starter for Arsenal. He outshines [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard. Additionally, he surpasses [Cody] Gakpo [at Liverpool]. He would start for Spurs.”
Semenyo's consistent performances — including a crucial penalty against Brighton and a remarkable free-kick at Leeds — have garnered him widespread praise, with teammate Justin Kluivert calling him "world-class."
Agbonlahor’s co-host, Jamie O’Hara, urged Tottenham to “go all out” for the winger, suggesting he would thrive alongside compatriot Mohammed Kudus.
However, Agbonlahor argued that Semenyo might have greater aspirations, wondering if Spurs are "significant enough" for a player aiming for Champions League competition.
